Teething Purgatory

Look at that face. Cute, no?
I feel like in the last two weeks I fell off the face of the Earth. Poor Little Monkey had his two upper front teeth push their way out of his tender pink gums, and he was just plain miserable. (We went through teething during the school year, and for the life of me I can't remember what that was like. I think I blocked out the memory since it was at the end of the school year and I was a pretty good imitation of the Walking Dead anyway. I even have the certificate to prove it!)

The poor kid wasn't sleeping well at all. Which also means that we were not sleeping well. Little Monkey was waking up almost constantly throughout the night. Napping only 30-45 minutes at a time and would fuss and cry for seemingly no reason. (Of course when we realized the reason we would do our best to comfort him as much as possible, but you have to go down the list. Hungry? Sleepy? Dirty? Wanna play? Wanna be left alone? Wanna be held? Hungry?! Sleepy?! Teeth?!)

Once I finally figured out what was wrong with the kiddo it still wouldn't be all that easy to ease his teething pain. Cold teethers and the like help, but don't make everything all better immediately. Some days I felt like Little Monkey would clutch onto me and hold on like there was no tomorrow-- he was THAT miserable.

It's now been two weeks and, praise the Lord, Little Monkey is slowly, but surely, falling back into the routine he was in before. He's napping 45 minutes to an hour and half and three times a day. He's slowly sleeping at least 3 to 3 1/2 hours at a time rather then 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

You guys, the simple fact that this is happening in summer is my saving grace. When I was able to I slept when he slept. (Not much considering that he would only sleep for 30-45 minutes at a time and by the time I fell asleep he was waking up.) When he was awake we played as much as possible, read our library books, and I tried my hardest to just keep him on a schedule. When he slept, I let him. Forget everyone else. Forget that I had a baby shower to attend. I showed up late (It ended maybe 30 minutes after I had finally shown up, but I can also blame part of that on the crazy rain we had.) because he was sleeping and I wasn't going to wake him up. Forget that my parents wanted to eat breakfast as we normally do on Sundays. He was sleeping, and, dang it, I was gonna let him sleep. We ended up getting lunch, but I didn't care. He'd slept!

Aw, you can teeth all you want. I love you.
Yeah, it's safe to say that I also didn't go out or do much that last week or so. It also kinda stinks since I went into the teething purgatory just after he turned 7 months in early July and came out of it in the middle of July. As my friend Annie put it, "Four more weeks until school starts." What?! How?! How did the new school year creep up on me like that?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm going to enjoy what time I have left with this little guy. He's pretty cute after all.
